Obtaining a Georgian Visa

Georgia promotes tourism and a short-stay visa is easy to obtain. For some countries, a visit is possible without a visa. See the list of countries whose citizens can visit Georgia without a visa. A passport valid for at least 6 months is required for all nationalities. Citizens of the European Union may enter Georgia with a travel document, as well as with an identity card issued by a Member State of the European Union. The national identity card shall contain the name, surname, date of birth, and a photo of the person.

How to obtain a Georgian visa?

First, we have to find out what kind of visa you need to apply for. Georgia has five visa categories:

1. Diplomatic (A)

2. Special (B)

3. Ordinary (C)

4. Immigration (D)

5. Transit (T)

Next to these five visa categories, there are short-term and long-term visas with the right of a single entry or multiple entries.

Two different procedures to obtain a Georgian visa

Obtaining a Georgian visa can be done with two different procedures; through the E-Visa portal and E-application system. When you will make use of the E-Visa portal you can do the whole procedure digitally, while through the E-application system you need to bring all needed documents to the Embassy of Georgia in your country.

E-Visa portal

The E-Visa portal can only be used in case you apply for a short-term C category Georgian visa. The E-Visa portal is the easiest and fastest way to obtain a short-term C category Georgian visa electronically without visiting Georgian Embassy or Consular Office. You apply via the website of the E-Visa portal you fill in all requested information, confirm your email address, and pay the visa application fee. Within five working days, you will receive an answer to your application.

E-application system

The E-application system has to be used to obtain a Georgian visa of any type through the Georgian Embassy or Consular Office. You apply via the website of the E-application system, fill in all requested information, make an appointment at the Georgian Embassy or Consular Office and pay the visa application fee. Hard copies of the signed visa application and all other documents necessary to obtain a Georgian visa shall be submitted to the visa issuing authority at the Embassy or Consular Office. The decision to issue a visa is made within the following time limits after a visa application is submitted: Short-term visa – 10 calendar days, Long-term visa – 30 calendar days, and D5 immigration visa – 10 calendar days.
